Region: China increases assistance following USAID withdrawals

Between 10-23 April, a number of Chinese support projects were recorded among some Pacific island countries after the withdrawal of many USAID programmes.

  • In the Solomon Islands, the Chinese embassy donated one small diesel generator, 8 sewing machines, 30 wheeled garbage bins, 120 solar-powered flashlights, 40 solar power systems with charging panels and 30 radios to improve daily living conditions of people in the Renbel Province.

  • In Papua New Guinea, the Chinese Ambassador participated in the opening of the Western Pacific University’s Digital Knowledge Hub, a project funded by the Chinese Government with a K50 million grant.
