Solomon Islands: Government resolves teacher strike and demonstrates continued ability to maintain stability

On 28 August, the Solomon Islands Government (SIG) negotiation team signed a Master Agreement (MA) with members of the Solomon Islands National Teachers Association (SINTA) to call off a proposed strike action. The agreement included eight areas, including job security for teachers, salary backdating to 1 January 2024, and establishing the teachers' housing taskforce..

Assessment: The Master Agreement demonstrates the Solomon Islands government’s ability to maintain political stability, particularly in the lead-up to the 54th Pacific Islands Forum. The actions illustrate the government’s influence on public and private institutions across the country.
